Houston County NAACP to host meet and greet for citizens to hear from mayoral, city council candidates: ‘We are all members of the same county’
The NAACP of Houston County will provide an opportunity for citizens to meet candidates from all over Houston County.

WARNER ROBINS – The Houston County NAACP will host a Mayoral and City Council Meet and Greet on Monday, Sept. 29 at First Baptist Church, an opportunity to meet candidates from all over Houston County.
Candidates from Warner Robins, Perry and Centerville will come together to meet their constituents. President of the NAACP Jonathan Johnson said bringing candidates together was their goal; they want the community to be aware of their priorities if elected.
Johnson described the event as a way for candidates to “sell themselves” and share what they aim to provide for their constituents. During the event, attendees can take photos with candidates and ask questions.
At the end of the event, special guest Mike Clark Jr. will perform to motivate attendees to vote. Food and drinks will also be provided.
Johnson shared many candidates are planning to attend. Those who are unable are planning to submit a video. Whether it’s in person or virtually, every candidate will be a part of the event and share their campaign.
He said most people who live in a certain city don’t have the opportunity to meet candidates from nearby cities. However, Johnson believes they all live in Houston County, which includes three different city governments.
“You only live in your city, but [it’s] still under your umbrella, which is Houston County. It’s just giving everybody an opportunity to know what’s going on all over the county,” he said.
Johnson shared a person may have a family member living in a different city, but they cannot meet their local leaders. He hopes the event will change that and provide an opportunity for people to socialize with their local candidates.
“It’ll give the whole county a chance to come together as one county and as one government and talk and exchange ideas…we are all members of the same county,” he said.
Johnson encourages the public to be a part of the event and come together.
“It’s just giving us a chance to be able to relate together as one big family and not be separated because of what city we live in Houston County,” he said.
Johnson reminded residents Election Day is Nov. 4 and to use their voice by voting for the candidate they feel will be a leader in their community.
The Mayoral and City Council Meet and Greet will be on Monday, Sept. 29, from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. First Baptist Church is located at 210 Garmon Street in Warner Robins.
