Obsidian Hope’s Juneteenth Celebration reaches its fourth annual 

WARNER ROBINS— Obsidian Hope, along with the City of Warner Robins, will be hosting the fourth annual Juneteenth celebration Thursday, June 19, from 3-8 p.m. at the North Houston Sports Complex. 

Antuanette Davis, CEO of Obsidian Hope, said the event will feature an area for the kids, a DJ, line dancing, over 60 vendors, and 11 food trucks on site. 

“The event this year will be inside, so we won’t have to deal with the heat, and we are just providing unity in the community,” she said. “We just invite the entire community to come out. Our public officials will be there and recognized and we’re just looking to have a good time.” 

Davis mentioned that this Juneteenth celebration has grown tremendously over the past four years. This is the second year that the City of Warner Robins is the co-host. 

“Having the [City of Warner Robins] on board is definitely a plus,” she said. “Each year it is getting bigger and bigger, and the way it is growing, we may have to put vendors inside and outside.” 

Obsidian Hope is a class taught by Davis, centered on financial education and economic empowerment. 

“In doing that, we also give back to the community, which also ties into being a part of Kappa Epsilon Psi Military Sorority Inc., where we also give back to the community with all of our community service,” she said. “I’m wearing two hats in that arena right now, but it allows me to give back in double capacity in both of my areas.” 

Davis pointed out it is very important to celebrate Juneteenth. 

“We’ve got to remember our history in bringing the next generation and letting them not forget what all has happened and what our ancestors have done to get us to this point,” she said. “It is just very important to keep [the next generation] grounded and aware of our past.” 

With this celebration, Davis wants to make sure their history is still recognized. 

“We continue to grow, and if it’s nothing but an annual event, that’s what I’m going to give 150% to to make sure something of this nature continues,” she said. 

Overall, Davis wants everyone to have a great time at the Juneteenth celebration. She said everyone is welcome to celebrate the important holiday. 

“We’re all a part of God’s big world, so we just want to come together, unify and have a good time,” she said.
