Second annual Community Baby Shower helps local mothers with necessities

WARNER ROBINS – Local mothers are invited to a Community Baby Shower on Saturday, April 19 from noon to 3 p.m.
This is the second annual baby shower; primarily organized by Daniella Edmund. She said last year, while she herself was pregnant, she saw a need for mothers in the community with diapers, wipes and other necessities.
The event was a “spur of the moment” idea for Edmund which ended up helping 30 women. From there, she decided to make it a yearly event.
The event will feature a diapers and wipes giveaway. There will also be a raffle where winners will be given either a stroller, cribs or walkers. Edmund also said there will be health, wellness and mental health vendors providing information on community resources.
Edmund hopes to help at least 40 women this year, but she wants the outreach to be bigger and help up to 50.
“I’m hoping I have enough resources for the event that’s coming up, which I’m sure I am because I have great community support,” she said.
Edmund said many local organizations, like Genesis Joy House and Suffered in Silence, have donated items. Individuals have also reached out to her after she posted the event on social media wanting to know more about the event and how to donate, including a woman who made 50 diaper towers.
“It’s just so beautiful to have the community be a part of something that I envisioned myself. Even though a lot of people do it, I envisioned how I wanted to be seen for mine [community baby shower] and it’s coming together,” she said. “I’m building this relationship and partnership with so many different people in the community. I truly do love it.”
Edmund said those interested in donating can bring pacifiers, socks, bibs, blankets and any necessities for a baby’s first three months, the time she wants to help women in the most.
Edmund also shared that this year the community baby shower is bigger. She said there is even more community support and people getting involved. She hosts this event around her birthday along with a Neighborhood Cleanup.
“I’m excited for what’s here [and] what’s to come for my community baby shower. I don’t know what next year’s going to bring but I do know it’s going to be bigger and better next year,” she said.
Edmund said there is a need for young women in the community: times are hard and it takes a village to raise a child. She hopes this event will bring happiness and resources expecting mothers didn’t know were available.
Speaking on maternal mental health, Edmund shared going through a pregnancy is difficult and some mothers get depression; she wants them to know there is help.
“Pregnant ladies need help. They need the help and they need the love because a lot of them sometimes don’t have love when they’re pregnant so they go through their whole pregnancy without love. I just want to give them hugs and let them know I’m there,” she said.
Edmund has stayed in contact with a lot of women who attended last year. She said they would call her to vent or to ask for help and she wants to let them know they have options.
“I may not have a million dollars but I do have the resources and I have a team of people behind me who are very resourceful [and] they do have resources. I could do my best to help them the best way I can,” she said.
Edmund encourages everyone to come by the community baby shower and see what’s available.
“I just want to be there for these young ladies. A lot of these young ladies who’s coming to the baby shower they [said], ‘We’re not having our own baby shower. We don’t know what to do. I don’t have anything.’ It makes me feel happy that I’m able to throw this community baby shower and be able to do something like that for them because it’s really needed,” she said.
The Community Baby Shower will be on Saturday, April 19 from noon to 3 p.m. at the Curtis Event Center located at 2050 Watson Boulevard. Attendees must RSVP; the deadline is Friday, April 18.
Anyone interested in donating or attending is encouraged to contact Edmund at (478) 336-0050.
