To the ‘Uninvolved Christian’

This article seeks to increase awareness of what confessing Christians can do about an all-important issue.

Getting your Trinity Audio player ready...

A few weeks ago, almost by accident, I began a series aimed at professing Evangelicals. Initially, I wrote an article directed at “the unaffiliated Christian,” then secondly another targeting the “unsaved Christian.” I am prayerfully hopeful seed has been sown that will bear fruit in due season.

Now, I want to address the “Uninvolved Christian.” While there are many in ways in which this article could go, (and perhaps should go), there is one particular subject I want to address. But I warn you, it is an unpopular topic … and that is, the issue of abortion. More specifically, this article seeks to increase awareness of what we as confessing Christians can do about this all-important issue. And friends, this conversation is time-sensitive … in more than one way.

Frankly, there are few subjects that illicit such a visceral response as the issue of abortion. It seems people are either in militant favor of, or they are resolutely opposed to the act. Yet, having said that; what has become painfully obvious to anyone who is paying attention, is that there is a third group of individuals, who simply refuse to bother themselves thinking about, or addressing this subject in any meaningful manner.

Because publicly discussing child-sacrifice is so unpleasant and uncomfortable, and the conversation so emotionally-charged, most of us opt out of any involvement whatsoever. Instead, we do like the proverbial ostrich and stick our heads in the sand and pretend like nothing bad is happening. When all the while, babies are being murdered every day all around us. Unwittingly subservient to the wickedly-wise counsel of Screwtape, we are so preoccupied with meaningless matters, we don’t give any significant thought to the daily bloodshed in every city in Georgia. Pursuit of the American Dream has blinded us to the American Holocaust that causes the ground beneath our feet to run blood red.

Don’t get me wrong, I am not standing in some ivory tower looking down critically at those who don’t want to address this depressing subject. And let me tell you why; I haven’t done enough, not nearly enough, to lend a voice to the voiceless. Yes, for my entire adulthood I have been adamantly pro-life. I have preached (every-so-often) against abortion. I have attended “Right to Life Rallies.” We have donated money to crisis pregnancy centers. We have tried to only support pro-life politicians. We have prayed and counseled with young women debating whether to keep or terminate a pregnancy. And while that may seem like a lot, it isn’t. No, I don’t have a magic wand to wave to make this barbaric act end, but there is something we can do.

My aim in this article is to challenge every single confessing Christian to be more than passively pro-life, but to be active in the pursuit of abolishing abortion. Rest assured; the “pro-choice” crowd is anything but passive. Which means born-again believers must get involved and speak out in the behalf of our preborn neighbors. In this age of apathy and indifference, do not be a believer who is uninvolved in this fight for life. Christian, you can help. You can make a difference. You can save lives right now. If you will simply decide to get involved and stay involved.

State Representative Emory Dunahoo (along with many co-signers) have bravely submitted HB441; the Georgia Prenatal Equal Protection Act. In short, this legislation extends the same Constitutional protections that keep you and I safe, to the unborn child. If indeed, life begins at fertilization, (and it does), then our laws ought to protect that human life regardless of age or stage of development. If passed, this bill would extend the same laws that currently exist to protect all people from murder, to the preborn.  As has been wisely said; “murdering anyone, should be illegal for everyone.” And that is what this bill would do, but we need your support.

If you want to make a difference in thousands of lives, pick up your phone and call these representatives. These are members of the committee who are tasked with deciding whether or not this bill moves forward. Contact them and politely urge them to support HB441. Then, call your own local State Representative, then your State Senator and ask them to also support this legislation. If you don’t know who your reps are, do a Google search and you will end up at the legis.ga.gov website. And friend, please … you need to do this right now, today. This is absolutely time sensitive. This is a simple, but vitally important way, you can have an impact right here where we live. It only takes a few minutes to make these calls, but it could make an eternal difference.

Representative Clint Crowe, (404) 656-0325.

Representative Stan Gunter, (404) 656-5125.

Representative Mandi Ballinger, (404) 656-7153.

Representative James Burchett, (404) 656-5024.

Representative Rob Leverett, (404) 656-5132.

Representative Soo Hong, (404) 651-7737.

Representative Chuck Efstration, (404) 656-5052.

Before I close, let me share both Biblical instruction and warning to the “Uninvolved Christian” … Proverbs 24:11-12 states, “Rescue those who are being taken away to death; hold back those who are stumbling to the slaughter. If you say, “Behold, we did not know this,” does not he who weighs the heart perceive it? Does not he who keeps watch over your soul know it, and will he not repay man according to his work?” Therefore, let us everyone get involved and work together to abolish abortion to the Glory of God.
