Warner Robins hosts Trunk or Treat, hopes for ‘fun party atmosphere’

WARNER ROBINS — Prepare to get in the spirit of Halloween with the city of Warner Robins this Thursday as the city brings back Food Truck Roundup with a spooky twist.
On Oct. 17, the city will host its second annual Trunk or Treat at Perkins Field. For those who are hungry for more than candy, the city will have a variety of food trucks available. For the kids, the Trunk or Treat will feature over 30 vendors ready to pass out sweet treats and trinkets.
Mayor LaRhonda Patrick said the city is stocked up with over 200,000 pieces of candy and treats. Parents need not worry; the city has inspected every donation with safety in mind.
“Our police officers check every piece of candy or they come straight out of the package, from the store to the package, so we know there’s nothing else going in. All candy is provided by the city of Warner Robins, so you don’t have to worry about having to go through and check all the candy before the kids get to eat it,” she said.
For an added spooky twist, characters from the Terror at Meramac Grove will walk the grounds, and the best-decorated trunk and food truck will also receive awards.
Finally, the event will feature live music, face painting, balloon animals and a kids’ zone.
Patrick said she is hopeful for beautiful weather but, more importantly, a fun and festive atmosphere similar to last year’s event.
“We just want everyone to have such a good time. Everyone was on a very fun and playful mood last year. The parents loved being there with the kids. Families got involved, dressing up together, their family costumes. We had people that would dance to the music, just a fun party atmosphere,” she said.
Patrick explained that the Trunk or Treat’s energy slightly differs from typical food truck events, but it is fun for families and those looking for a party.
“Most of our food truck roundups are a pretty chill atmosphere: people walking around, holding hands, taking it easy, getting in line for food, sitting down and listening to the entertainment. This one is a more high-energy type event, with a lot of excitement,” she said.
Patrick said this year’s event will be a safe way to participate in Halloween traditions. Last year’s event filled a need in the community, with the highest attendance for the venue. Patrick said before, events she would take her son to were overly crowded and often ran out of candy.
“We had people coming from all different types of cities in our Middle Georgia area just to enjoy it. You’d be surprised how many families look for opportunities like this in the community that’s completely free, safe and fun for the children,” she said.
City events have grown from two signature events to over 25 a year, Patrick mentioned. She encouraged the community to come to this free event in costume or festive outfits and have a great time.
“It’s the best place to be in October,” she said.
The Food Truck Roundup and Trunk or Treat will take place Thursday, Oct. 17, at Perkins Field, 105 Mulberry Street. The event will run from 5 to 9 p.m., and the Trunk or Treat will run from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m.
More updates on the event can be found on the city’s Facebook page.
