Softball Roundup: Region 2-5A victor decided; Region 1-4A championship in the balance
Recap last week’s softball with the Softball Roundup.

The softball regular season is coming to a close, and many region champions are being crowned.
One already has been for Region 2-5A, but Region 1-4A awaits a winner as results are due to the GHSA by Oct. 12.
Here’s a roundup of last week’s softball:
Houston County

Once again, the Lady Bears are crowned champions of Region 2-5A. Although their chances looked bleak two weeks ago they made a furious comeback to dethrone Veterans and Thomas County Central and win their third region championship in a row.
They needed two losses from Veterans (lost twice to Lee County on Oct. 2) and to sweep the Lady Yellow Jackets, which they finished during Thursday’s doubleheader by a total score of 20-5.
Northside

Northside just finished their third season without a win in region play, ending the 2024 campaign 4-26 (0-15 Region). The Lady Eagles only rostered three seniors this year (Abigail Watkins, Jayla Walton and Taylor Level) so there is a lot of room to grow in the future.

Perry

The Lady Panthers have done all they can to win the Region 1-4A championship, but it’s out of their hands now. They currently sit at the top of the standings with a 5-1 region record, but Wayne County (16-7, 3-1 Region) still has a two-game series against Ware County (3-11-1, 2-2 Region) left on the schedule.

Veterans
Veterans’ two losses to Lee County on Wednesday eliminated them from region championship contention, but they are still virtually a lock for the playoffs. Though, they will have to play on the road.
They still have two regular season contests left against Mary Persons and Peach County.
Warner Robins

The Demonettes have finished their regular season schedule 3-16 and 0-6 in region play. Though, because New Hampstead does not have any recorded games, they sit at the fourth spot in the region which is good enough for a playoff berth.

Westfield
The Lady Hornets are 2-2 in the region which is tied with Calvary Christian for second place. They have a game against Strong Rock (11-9, 4-0 Region) and Brookstone (5-11, 0-4 Region) left on the regular season schedule.
