PERRY — Madison Hammock hit a two-RBI triple, Lauren Davidson had a big game on both sides of the field, and the Westfield Lady Hornets added another win to the column as they beat the Brookstone Lady Cougars 10-3 on senior night.
Westfield (11-5, 1-0 Region AAA) took a couple innings to heat up, yet as soon as their bats started swinging, it was all Westfield.
Brookstone (4-7, 0-1 Region AAA) did not go down easily as they stayed competitive deep in the game, capitalizing on a couple of wild throws and making the Lady Hornets’ pitcher earn every out.
Daelyn Sumner started the offensive outburst for Westfield with an infield single at the top of the third inning. Madeline Katz laid down a bunt to put runners at the corners.
Hammock stepped up to the plate, slapped a pitch to the center field wall, and raced around the bases, where she stopped at third, driving in Sumner and Katz to tie the score at two-all.
Riley Nelson and Davidson hit back-to-back RBI doubles followed by Avery Spence’s RBI single to bring the score to 6-2.
Spence, Savannah Scarisbrick, and Chloe Hill each had RBI singles in the fifth inning, adding three runs to their total.
Brookstone drove in two runs in the second inning, however, they would not score again until the sixth inning when a runner scored on a wild pitch.
Davidson finished the night 3-4 with two RBIs, a double, a stolen base, and complete game, striking out four. Davidson worked her way out of a bases loaded jam at the top of the seventh to end the game.
Every Westfield player managed to get on base, with several stealing bases to get into scoring position.
This win extended Westfield’s win streak to a season-high four games in a row.
Westfield softball coach Ryan Wetherington thought his Lady Hornets did well against a region opponent.
“I thought we played well. We had one big inning where we were able to get on base, string some hits together, and put some runs on the board.”
“[Brookstone] kept us off balance and we were able to make those adjustments, put the ball in play, and looked defensively sound,” Wetherington added. “Lauren came in and threw strikes,
they were able to put the ball in play, and we were able to make plays behind her. Good first region win – it was good to get that first win under our belt.”

Westfield will host the Pinewood Christian Lady Patriots (12-6) in a non-region matchup Thursday, Sept. 19 at 5:30 p.m.
