“On behalf of the Perry Area Chamber of Commerce, we are so happy to officially welcome you all to the Chamber,” President and CEO of the Perry Area Chamber of Commerce Maggie Schuyler said.

Mad Mexican is a restaurant based in Newnan, Georgia, and now has a franchise in Middle Georgia. Skip Davis and Wes Yon are co-owners of Mad Mexican-Warner Robins.

“Our food is Southern meets Mexican,” Davis said. “The difference between us and some of the other Mexican restaurants is that we have sauces on the food, to give it a little more flavor so to speak.”

Yon said that their claim to fame is their smoked brisket and their sauces, especially their ancho chipotle.

“What is really unique about our food is that it has all of the traditional Mexican flavors there mixed with Southern flavors,” he said.

Davis already has a business in Middle Georgia and described working in the area with Mad Mexican as different.

“What’s great about Middle Georgia is largely that Perry is here and it’s a little smaller than Warner Robins. Warner Robins is great, but Perry’s got this little local small town atmosphere that caters to our food truck,” Davis said.

Yon said moving to Middle Georgia made him see a lot of cultures, mostly southern.

“Because of the Air Force Base, they are bringing in all different types of people from all over the world, and it’s really unique to watch people interact, have a good time and the stereotypes of South Georgia and Middle can all just disappear,” Yon said.

Both owners feel phenomenal to now be a part of the Perry Area Chamber of Commerce.

At the start, Davis was hesitant to work with them but praised Schuyler and her team for sticking by them.

“They’ve promoted us, stuck by us, pushed us and brought us in,” Davis said. “I could not ask for better people to be in the position they are now.”

Given that Mad Mexican-Warner Robins is strictly a food truck, Davis is not too worried about the business’s mobility.

“The mobile thing isn’t too much of an issue because we have a home base in Warner Robins that is static because I own the building, so we don’t rent anything. We sometimes sit in front of our business on Fridays in Warner Robins, we don’t have to go anywhere and there’s no restaurants near us. Other than that, we do these events, so it’s not a big deal,” Davis said.

Yon explained it’s nice to have the freedom of owning a food truck business.

“We can sort of call the shots. We can go where we think the business is going to be, and it sort of takes a lot of the risk out of it. With a food truck, we have a lot more flexibility,” Yon said.

Both Davis and Yon want to hopefully mimic what the original franchise has done due to them being extremely successful.

“We’ve got to get the right people in place as they have to have our personality that can cater to the public,” Davis said. Because if they’re not going to cater to the public and keep the people like the Perry Chamber in mind, then we don’t want them on our hands.”
