According to the event description sent to the Journal,  “Our Town” is a three-act play written by American playwright Thornton Wilder in 1938.

“Described as ‘the greatest American play ever written,’ it presents the fictional American town of Grover’s Corners between 1901 and 1913 through the everyday lives of its citizens. This Pulitzer Prize-winning show showcases ‘the human condition’ and has found great success on Broadway and in theaters across the country for almost one hundred years,” the description said.

“This play is basically about looking at the lives of citizens and then seeing the values of human condition and human interaction whether it’s small moments or large moments in everyday life,” Director Abi Brown said.

Brown was inspired to put on this specific play by trusting her good friend and producer, Jaimie Miller, who presented her with the play.

“Once I started getting into the research of the play, especially with it being my first time directing, I really fell in love with the play,” she said.

This will be Brown’s first time directing a play. She is also an actor for the Warner Robins Little Theatre.

[“Our Town”] is just a good skeleton play where a first-time director can go off of any different way to portray it, especially since it’s been done so many times,” she said.

Brown describes this play as timeless.

“I think everybody questions everything that they do whether it’s important and they all can reflect on moments where we took those things for granted,” she said. “Because of the timeliness of the play, I think it’s been able to carry on and be relevant through the generations. I think it is very important for me and WRLT to put on this production, especially in Warner Robins, so that it hits a new generation in a different way.”

WRLT put on this play in 2000 when then-mayor Donald J. Walker issued a proclamation named “Warner Robins Little Theatre Our Town Month.”

Brown is working with Warner Robins’ current mayor LaRhonda Patrick to set up another proclamation for this year.

Brown said she has some bonus moments in the play.

“These moments don’t change the dynamic of the play at all because I want to stay true to the vision of Thorton Wilder,” she said.

Brown is thankful to the cast and crew for the help they have given her with the production.

“I am also really thankful to the Warner Robins Little Theatre for giving me the opportunity to direct for the first time and trusting me with that play and production,” she said.

Tickets for “Our Town” can be purchased here and will be $16 for general admission.
