WARNER ROBINS — One of the first things Buck Harris said upon his arrival to Warner Robins is that he’s focusing on changing the culture and setting the standard for Northside basketball.
He’s currently going through summer practices with 30-plus kids interested in playing for the Northside boys program this upcoming season, but in order to fully change a culture you have to start from the bottom up.
So this week Monday through Thursday from 8 a.m. to 12 p.m. he and his wife, ChoRhonda Harris (Northside girls basketball coach), are running a summer camp for kids in grades 1-7.
In Jones County the two ran their own separate summer camps, but given how late they arrived in the school year they decided to join forces this summer to coach up 27 campers.
The pair was pleased with how many participants they had for their first year, and there are plenty of activities to keep them occupied this week.
Each morning the campers go over a different area of fundamentals, and in the afternoons they go through competitions in one-on-one, three-on-three and five-on-five formats.
This allows the campers to warm up and apply the skills they learned in the morning, while also having a little bit of fun.
A camp like this is just one step of many in shaping Northside basketball how they see fit, but the Harris’s are off to a good start in Warner Robins.
