Warner Robins Demonettes scrimmage against Swainsboro in summer team camp

WARNER ROBINS — Head coach Rebecca White and the Warner Robins Demonettes hosted a team camp on Monday and Tuesday of this week to kick off the summer.
Teams as close as Northside and as far as Swainsboro came to take part in the scrimmages, which took up both the new and old gym both days.
Tuesday around noon the Demonettes faced off against Swainsboro in one of their three scrimmages of the day, and they looked as good as anticipated.
The familiar full-court press flustered the Tigers as senior Korveanna Slaughter and sophomore Trinitee Thomas led the charge for a 51-35 win.
Warner Robins was a young team last year, only graduating three seniors: guards Nevaeh Mack and Tori Davis and forward Zaiah Dantes.
Now they’re looking for internal development to take them on another deep playoff run, and White’s expectations for Slaughter and Thomas are lofty.
“Just have full control, be coaches on the floor,” White said of the steps the pair has to take. “Korveanna, she’s pretty much there. And Trinitee is following the same steps where I don’t have to tell them everything. Trinitee is very mature, she plays almost like a senior. So I’m hoping that this summer everything will click.”
Losing Mack and Davis are big hits to the guard rotation, and now a Demonettes team that already lacked shooting is desperate for it.
Despite that, White is confident she has players who can step in and fill those roles, and doesn’t expect to see a dip in offensive production.
“Laila Howard, Janelle Turner, Ayanna Petty, Kennedy Jacobs…they’re going to step up and they’re going to fill the roles. They played really well yesterday,” White said. “I don’t see us going down much offensively, actually we’re going to go up defensively because we’re going to get quicker.”
One player that stuck out and could be another name to watch is Marley Hinson.
In a mix of youth and relative inexperience, Hinson showcased the ability to make the right decision in traffic as well as hit a few jumpers.

The Demonettes still look to be a force in (now) 4A basketball. Growth from Slaughter and Thomas is important above all else, but if the role players around them can grow with them Warner Robins could be looking at another deep playoff run next February.
With the team camp over, the Demonettes will head to Emerson, Ga. On Friday, June 14 and Saturday, June 15 for the GBCA Live Event.
They play Warren County and Tift County on Friday at 2 p.m. and 4 p.m. and Creekview and Cherokee on Saturday at 11 a.m. and 2 p.m.
