Northside drops season series against Bleckley County
WARNER ROBINS, Ga. — The Northside Eagles (0-3) and the Bleckley County Royals (2-1) faced off for the second time in as many weeks on Tuesday, and the Royals once again came out with the win.
The Royals’ 72-58 victory ensured a sweep in the season series against Northside, who remain winless in the young season.
Head coach Reggie Thorpe praised the team’s defensive effort in the early-goings, as they to led the Royals 16-12 by the end of the first quarter.
By halftime, however, Bleckley County held a slender lead at 32-28.
Though the Eagles tried to re-take the lead throughout the second half, the Royals maintained their edge and extended the lead to 58-40.
As the final buzzer sounded, Bleckley County remained ahead 72-58.
Though Northside sits at 0-3 on the season, Thorpe expressed confidence in his team’s progress and growth through their first several games.
He does recognize there are things the team needs to improve to give themselves a better chance at securing their first win.
“Late in the game, we gave up a bunch of rebounds — that’s been our Achilles’ heel the first two games,” Thorpe said.
Lady Royals 43, Lady Eagles 41
In a rematch from the regular season opener, the Northside Lady Eagles (0-3) lost a close one to the Bleckley County Lady Royals (1-1)
Neither team had much of an edge by the end of the first quarter, as the Lady Royals held a slim 8-5 lead.
The Lady Eagles, however, launched a comeback in the second period to outscore the Lady Royals 14-0 and take a 19-8 advantage into halftime.
At the end of the third quarter the Lady Eagles were still in control with a 32-28 lead.
Though the Lady Eagles led through most of the contest, the Lady Royals squeaked out a last-second win to mark the final score 43-41.
Head coach Tamica Sneed expressed satisfaction with her team’s execution of the game plan, and emphasized the positive strides they’ve made despite the need for defensive adjustments.
