Lady Bears’ defense shows out in 38-0 win over Howard County
WARNER ROBINS, Ga. — The Houston County Lady Bears took on the Howard County Lady Huskies in the first of three flag football games on Monday night.
The Lady Huskies started with the ball, but the Lady Bears weren’t keen on giving them much.
They kept the Lady Huskies on their own side of the field and a tackle in the backfield on third down by Baylee Bundren forced a punt.
On the first play of their possession, the Lady Bears flipped the field with yards after the catch that put them on the 20-yard line, and on the next play they rushed for their first touchdown of the game to go up 6-0.
After a three-and-out the Lady Bears started on their 40-yard line, and with a rush into Lady Huskies’ territory by Mariyah Brown and a pass to Amani Frazier for a touchdown they pushed their lead to 12-0.
Just as the Lady Huskies started to gain some momentum on offense, Isabella Martinez-Garcia intercepted the ball and was stopped just short of the 40-yard line.
After getting stuffed on the first play, Brown ran through the defense for a touchdown to push the lead to 18-0, even after another unsuccessful point-after attempt.
The defense forced another three-and-out and the offense got another crack at it before the half.
A great punt return put the Lady Bears on the Lady Huskies’ side of the field with the line of gain the 20-yard line, but two short runs brought up a third down.
A pass to Elle Tucker resulted in a first down halfway between the 20-yard line and the end zone, and on the next play a pass to Martinez-Garcia padded the lead to 26-0 after a successful two-point conversion attempt.
After shutting down the Lady Huskies to end the half the Lady Bears started the second half with the lead and the ball.
They added to that lead relatively quickly with a few big plays to move them down the field to set up another Brown rushing touchdown.
The Lady Huskies desperately tried to get something going on offense, but the Lady Bears’ defense held and forced a fourth down.
A long pass was unsuccessful and the Lady Huskies turned it over on downs, giving the Lady Bears the ball on the 20-yard line.
On the first play from scrimmage Brown threw a long pass to Lily Brezezicki for another touchdown, and the lead was 32-0 at the end of the third quarter.
After forcing another turnover on downs, the Lady Bears scored another touchdown to push the final score to 38-0.
The Lady Bears lost their second game of the evening 10-6 to Dodge County.
UP NEXT
The Lady Bears will travel to Warner Robins High School to play the Demonettes and Perry Lady Panthers on Monday, Oct. 23 starting at 6:15 p.m.
They will also play the Veterans Lady Warhawks and Northside Lady Eagles at Veterans on Thursday, Oct. 26 at 5:00 p.m.
