Royals take over homecoming against Westfield
PERRY, Ga. — The Westfield Hornets (3-3) hosted the Bleckley County Royals (4-2) on homecoming in the nest last Friday night, and the Royals played spoiler in a 49-13 thrashing.
The Hornets celebrated the night during pre-game with a homecoming parade that honored the nominations for homecoming court, future athletes going from primary to middle school, as well as last year’s homecoming queen.
From the very first possession the Hornets had trouble moving the ball.
They started on their own 34-yard line, but the Royals forced a turnover on third down and took it to the house shortly after.
The Hornets turned the ball over again on their next possession with a fumble on the 41-yard line, the Royals also capitalizing on that one to score.
Then, on the Royals’ third possession, quarterback Kam’ryn Everett made a 38-yard connection to Iverson Baker for a touchdown to go up 21-0.
The Hornets did finally get on the board with three minutes left in the second half, with a gain of 35 yards setting up a one-yard touchdown for Hornets quarterback Braydon Gay. That cut the deficit to 35-7.
In the second half most of the scoring was still provided by the Royals, though the Hornets did get one more score in.
With a couple of minutes left in the third quarter Gay made a 24-yard pass to Trae Hardy to cut the deficit to 42-13, but the Royals proved too much and took home the win 49-13.
