Independence Or Freedom

Getting your Trinity Audio player ready...

Why do we go where we have not been? Why do we seek what we do not see? Why is it so satisfying when we get it? The adventure of life is filled with accomplishing things that were not before us but became real after us.

The challenge to dream is fueled by the way we believe. Whether it is an idea, philosophy, invention or tool, it begins in the imagination of the mind. The creativity that exists in the mind has no limits. All of this leads to the concept or idea of independence.

When there was no shelter, the mind saw a place to live.

When there was no water, the mind built a well.

When there was no path, the mind made a highway.

When there was no freedom, the mind had a revolution.

As we have celebrated Independence Day, let us not forget that it was born from an idea generated in the mind. An idea that every person has rights. An idea that says everyone can have a say. An idea that you can become whatever you are able to dream you want to be.

What does the future look like when independence becomes a casualty of freedom? The same ideas that fuel independence can make a way for the surrender of the need for collaboration in our community. The fight for a right should not make us run to our isolated corners based on our individualized perspectives but instead should bring us to the center ring so we can recognize the need to fight with those who benefit from our disagreements.

The strength of the muscles in our body require that we have an opposing muscle force in order to have balance. Those opposing muscles then work together when they face a weight or movement from outside the body. Internal development based upon internal struggle produces strength when we face adversity, adversaries and new adventures.

The freedom to think, move and exist in an independent state of being still requires that we find ways to work together. The idea of independence should be the goal of our society not any one person. Even though there may be internal fights, independence should not be the victim of freedom.

Our minds can find a way for us to pursue happiness, without hating.

Our minds can learn about history, without being false victims of it.

Our minds can handle freedom, without destroying independence.
