WARNER ROBINS, Ga. — Two people are in custody after the discovery of marijuana and guns in a residence in Warner Robins.

According to the Warner Robins Police Department (WRPD), around 7:00 a.m. on July 29, WPRD’s Narcotics Investigation Unit and SWAT Team, arrested 42-year-old Kodi Lamar Johnson and 39-year-old Takayla Chanisha Harris for Violation of Georgia Controlled Substance Act.

At the residence on the 200 block of Kentshire Lane, officers recovered four firearms, over eight pounds of marijuana, pre-packaged in bags for distribution, over $12,000 in cash, and a vehicle.

Johnson and Harris have been charged with Possession of Marijuana with Intent to Distribute, four counts of Possession of a Firearm by a Convicted Felon, four counts of Possession of a Firearm during the Commission of a Crime, and Theft by Receiving.

Reflecting on this case with The Journal, Police Chief John Wagner said that while marijuana may be legal elsewhere, the police department enforces the laws for the state when it comes to the drug.

“We still follow the laws for Georgia, and the laws for Georgia say that marijuana is illegal, especially large amounts of marijuana, certainly. This isn’t something where somebody just had a blunt. This was eight pounds that they had, with quite a bit of money and quite a bit of guns. Four guns, two of them stolen.”

He also said that due to the circumstances, this case could have turned into a violent crime, which is why the police department sprang into action.

“The thing is, drug cases are connected to drug violent cases which are related to gun violent cases. So you have to work those cases because they’re all related,” Wagner said.

Chief Wagner added the police department would continue to take these cases unless there is a change from legislation.

“It’s not Warner Robins Police Department, it’s not law enforcement that’s saying it’s against the law, it’s the legislators who you voted for that are saying it’s against the law, and we are sworn to uphold the law,” Wagner said.

Johnson and Harris have been released to the Houston County Detention Facility.
