Royce Byrd wins 2022 Tournament of Champions
PERRY, Ga — The 2022 Horseshoes Tournament of Champions winner is Royce Byrd. All of the horseshoe pitchers on Saturday, May 1, 2022, had to win a sanctioned event in the 2021 season to compete in this champions’ tournament. There were 24 entries that started with a random draw for their initial class.
The winner of each class then went to the championship round. Royce Byrd, Marty Campbell, George Schmidt and Dale Marteney as the “final four” pitched some great games to make it to the championship round.
Royce Byrd won all of his games in the championship round for first place with a ringer percentage of 47.78%. The other three each had a 1-win and 2-loss record so the standings were decided by who pitched closest to their ringer percentage.
Marty Campbell was 2nd place (21.11 %), George Schmidt was 3rd place (44.44%), and Dale Marteney was 4th place (35.56%).
Perry Horseshoe Pitchers Club was represented well with two of their members, Royce Byrd and George Schmidt, placing in this tournament. Pictured is Royce Byrd, the 2022 Horseshoes Tournament of Champions winner.
