Burress breaks Bears RBI record in region win

WARNER ROBINS, Ga-Against the Lee County Trojans, Drew Burress recorded his 54th RBI to set the single season record for runs batted-in at HOCO. In 2022, Drew Burress has also broken Houston County’s school home run record. Prior to “Seed Day at the Garden,” the HOCO school record for home runs was 10. Burress claimed his 11th and 12th home runs of the year on April 1 against the Valdosta Wildcats.

Recently, the Houston Bears defeated the Lee County Trojans in a region contest. With the win, the Houston Bears improved their winning streak while remaining undefeated in their region. On the mound for the Bears was Landon Tankersley, against the Trojans, who led Houston to a 6-4 win. Gage Harrelson earned the save, striking out the last four batters of the game. Houston’s Drew Burress has had himself a great 2022 campaign, also winning MVP at the Perfect Game Gulf Coast Showdown in Florida.

Coach Hopkins released the following statement: “Great start to the week with a 6-4 win over Lee County. Congrats to Drew Burress on setting the single season RBI record, with 54. The Bears will travel to Leesburg on Friday for a big region 1-6A double-header. Currently, we are 18-4 overall and 4-0 in the region.” The Houston County Bears scoring 193 runs and allowing fewer than 88, the team is looking very fierce as they anticipate their final region 1-6A games.

The Bears are hot at home this season. Houston is undefeated at 12-0 in “War-Town.” The Bears are an above average road team, with two wins and two losses. While on a five-game winning streak, the Houston County Bears are ranked as the number one team in the Peach State, region 1-6A, as well as atop the Macon area.

One day, Drew Burress and his teammate Gage Harrelson will be featured on Houston County’s Baseball Wall of Fame. Texas Tech Signee Gage Harrleson reached another milestone a few games ago. Harrleson recorded his 100th hit as a Houston Bear.

The four-year Bear recorded this milestone, while HOCO was competing in the PG Gulf Coast Showdown in Florida. The Houston County Bears will host the Northside Eagles on April 22. The Eagles from Green street are 9-14 overall and will travel across town for this rivalry matchup in “War-Town.” This double-header will be the final regular season game of 2022 for the Houston Bears.
