Perry Panthers first in region to hit the diamond

DEXTER, Ga. — The Perry Panther Pit crew played their first of three games this week. The atmosphere at the ballpark was great and filled with fans to witness a good game of baseball, against West Laurens in Dublin.

The Panther Pit crew jumped out to an early lead in the first inning. The Panthers scored a run in the first inning, and this became consistent throughout the game. The Perry Panthers began to really fire up the bats. Outlasting their region foes, the Panthers scored two runs in the second inning, followed by one run in the third inning. The Panthers started to rampage in the fourth inning, scoring three run and another two in the sixth inning. The Panthers scored the bulk of their runs in the seventh inning. Despite a good outing, the Panthers gave up seven runs in the third inning. Jonah Wynn received credit for the win, as he had two strikeouts on the mound. Griffin and Parrish both scored three runs in the win. Tanner Knowles, Brayden Long both added another two runs apiece. Rounding out the runs scored; Carson Bryant, Tyler Newhouse, Scarborough, Hagler and Smith added a run, as well.

Tanner Knowles and Dylan Butler scored the first two runs for the Panther Diamond boys. The Panther Crew would go on to score runs in every inning of the game, except for the fifth inning.

In the fourth inning, the Perry Panther Pit crew scored another three runs. Tanner Knowles had two RBI’s in the fourth inning. Alongside Bryant, Brayden Long added another RBI of his own. The score was 9-9 heading into the seventh and final inning.

It was the seventh inning that the Panther Pit crew spoiled the game for their region foes. West Laurens scored their final run in the fifth inning.

Perry Panther Pit’s Coach Denny Bryant had the following to say after the Panthers most recent game: “Today was a big region win against West Laurens. The Panthers have won eleven of their last twelve games and are 10-1 in Region 4 AAAA. The Panthers are in first place in Region 4 after taking two out of three games from West Laurens. Perry split a double-header on last week by winning Game one on an eighth inning walk off HR by Carson Bryant. Perry also lost game two 4-1 before winning the rubber match in Dexter (Laurens County) 15-9. During this stretch, the Panthers have outscored their opponents 137-28 while posting a .425 Team batting average. Carson Bryant, Brayden Long and Tyler Newhouse are all batting over .500 in Region play. Bryant has hit 3 homers in Region play while Tanner Knowles has added 2 homers. On the year, Carson Bryant is hitting .433 with six homers, twenty-seven RBI’s, and OPS of 1.326. Carson Bryant is also 5-1 with a 1.35 ERA in thirty-two Innings of work, forty-seven K’s to only eight Walks and opponents’ batting average is .155,” mentioned Perry Panthers Coach Denny Bryant.

We are -strong in Region play and it is important to keep it going. We were below .500 through the first 11 games. We have had our chance to win many of the games, but didn’t get it done. Every team we have played before our region stretch has been ranked in the Top 10 of their classification. We stacked the front end of the schedule to help us prepare for the playoffs. It has been disappointing as far as the games that we have lost, but in the end I feel like it is going to make us better for a playoff run.”

The Panther Pit Crew is 15-9 overall and after their recent win, remains at only one lost in region 4-4A (4-AAAA). On Monday, April 11, the Panthers traveled Rutland. The Panthers will play another region 4-4A game on Friday, against Westside (Macon) on the road.

The Panthers defeated Rutland (Macon) 18-0, in Macon. The game was called in the third inning. The Panther Pit Crew is also at home, today against the Hurricanes from Rutland (Macon). Perry will play game three of their weekly stretch, on the evening of Friday April 15.
