Houston ladies and gents claim senior night victories

WARNER ROBINS, Ga. — After a failed audio system delayed the start of senior night, Northside and Houston’s women teams began to sing the United States’ national anthem.

Following the singing of the National Anthem, the Houston County Lady Bears continued their fun on Northside. Last Friday, the Houston County Lady Bears hosted the Northside Lady War Eagles, which transitioned into a stat-padding contest, for the Lady Bears.

Houston County jumped out to an early lead in the first half of play, scoring a goal by the 27th minute. The swing of momentum led to the Lady Bears scoring four goals in the first half. With a red card being given to the Houston County goalie, Northside’s key striker was injured but still able to walk. This did not change the game’s flow because Houston County’s goalie only had to save one shot all evening.

After a great first half, the Lady Bears were leading heading into halftime, 5-0. Houston went into cruise control in the second half of play.

The Lady Bears took their feet somewhat off the accelerator, allowing zero goals and scoring five of their own. The Lady Bears won their senior night against Northside, 10-0.

This match was important because Houston County has solidified their fifth consecutive region win of 2022. Coach Moe Mohamed and the Houston County Lady Bears soccer team has continued to excel throughout this 2022 campaign. The Houston County Lady Bears have scored 94 goals in 15 games, allowing just seven.

These ladies from Houston County have shutout eight different opponents over the course of their season. The Valdosta Lady Wildcats were just another to be added to the list.

Coach Moe’s Lady Bears are comprised of twelve seniors who have really taken charge of the locker room. Houston County’s Maci Dunlap, Hannah Grady, Emily Grady, Whitley Anderson and Mady Hughes scored in the win against the Lady Eagles.

The Houston Lady Bears have a few players who have gained or are currently gaining interest from college scouts, but Coach Mohamed’s team is focused on their upcoming games. The Bears will look to remain undefeated in the region as they play Valdosta on Friday in Houston County. The Houston County Lady Bears will get every other teams’ best shots, as they are currently 14th in the country, 11th in Georgia and 4th in class 6A.

Coach Mohamed “MOE” Mahmoud and the Houston County Lady Bears are 13-1-1 overall but are still to be defeated in region 1-6A.

Recently, the Houston County ladies won region 1-6A against their foes. Senior Maci Dunlap leads the Lady Bears. Dunlap is already signed to play D-1 soccer at Georgia Southern University. Dunlap has been the key difference Houston this season.

Coach Cassandra Ingram’s Houston Bears beat their cross-town rivals, 6-1, on senior night. The Bears improved to 9-6 overall with the win. In the region, the Houston County Bears hold first place, with a 4-1 record. At home, HOCO is 5-4. On the road, the Bears are 4-2, while having scored 40 goals. This season, the Houston Bears have held their opponents to 33 goals, while holding onto their three-game winning streak.
