HOCO ladies trounce Lady Trojans: Lee County outscores Bivins’ Bears by 22

The HOCO Lady Bears hosted the Lee County Lady Trojans on Tuesday night, but the Lady Trojans helped the Lady Bears regain momentum and continue their winning streak.

Houston County came into the game with a 16-3 (4-1) record, but after scoring only 38 points, the Lady Bears finished the final period on a 17-13 scoring run.

Houston County claimed the region victory in a 51-38 win. Lee County led at the end of the first half, but the Lady Bears slowly began to close the margin. On last night, the HOCO Lady Bears played their last regular season home game, against the Dodge County Lady Indians. The Lady Bears suffered a loss against Dodge County earlier in the season.

As the Houston County ladies look ahead to their regional and state tournaments, the Lady Bears have scored 1,009 points during their 2021-2022 campaign. After Tuesday night, the HOCO Lady Bears improved to 17-3 overall and 5-1 in region 1-AAAAAA (1-6A) play. The Lady Bears are currently first in region 1-6A. On last Saturday, they beat the Crisp County Lady Cougars, 76-51 at home.

For the anticipated men’s game, Coach David Bivins and the HOCO Bears are 7-13 with a 3-3 record in region 1-AAAAAA (1-6A). As of lately, the Houston County Bears have gained much momentum. On Tuesday night, the Lee County Trojans and the Houston County Bears played a great game of high school basketball. Jalen Jordan has continued to play at a high level for Coach David Bivins.

Jordan is averaging 12.5 points, 1.5 assists, 3.5 rebounds and two steals per game. The senior forward has yet to announce any offers and commitments. For the Lee County Trojans, almost every player scored. Malik Brackins led all scorers with 12 points and eight rebounds, Joseph Frazier had seven points, Javell Furgerson and Malcolm Jones added nine points and Donovan Taylor and Demetric Paul both scored five. The Trojans outrebounded the Bears and ended the game with 47 rebounds. Caden King led all players in rebounds with 11.

The Bears lost a 58-36-region contest. On last night, the Bears from HOCO joined the Lady Bears, at home against the Westside (Macon) Seminoles. HOCO will there last regular season home game on Friday February 11 against Dodge County. The Bears are 4-8 at home, 2-5 on the road, scored 1,043 points and has allowed 1,147 points. Currently, the HOCO Bears are gearing up for their post-season. Coach David Bivins and the Houston County Bears are preparing for the region 1-6A tournament.
