Victore des champions: Demons complete Cinderella season for back-2-back titles
(Front page sports teaser photo credit: Corey Barnes) After a lengthy weather delay, Marquis Westbrook and the Warner Robins Demons claimed their first back-to-back state titles win. “War-Town” finished 14-1 overall, and they also sported a 3-1 record in region 1-AAAAA. The Demons players completed their historic Cinderella season to repeat as champs of the GHSA class 5A, for the second consecutive season.
The Demons headed into the GHSA State 5A Title game as the second seed, coming from their respected region. Center Parc Stadium, which is home to the Georgia State Panthers, was the site for the 2021 GHSA 5A State title game. The Warner Robins Demons forced early turnovers and never looked back. The momentum from the Demons helped them cruise on to a 38-14 win over the Calhoun Yellow Jackets (Calhoun, Georgia).
Senior athlete JaFrederick “Fred-P” Perry, helped lead the Warner Robins playoff run. Perry finished the game with 233 yards, two touchdowns, 10 tackles and two pbu. JaFrederick Perry had 926 yards and 16 touchdowns in the Demons five playoff games. Perry was the first to cross into the end zone for the Bearcats, as he scored on a three-yard run for the Demons.
Shortly afterward, Demons defensive lineman Nathaniel Sanford, recovered a muffed punt and ran into the end zone for a 41-yard scoop and score. As the game went into halftime, the Warner Robins offense scored on a 51 bomb from Christion Lane to Cam Flowers. This made the score 24-7 with the Demons in charge of the ball game.
The third quarter would be a defensive shutout for both teams and the Demons would score twice in the fourth quarter. The Warner Robins Demons would hold the Calhoun Yellow Jackets to just one score in both halves, to claim their second consecutive GHSA State 5A title. This is Warner Robins’ first back-to-back state title in school history and the Demons become the 10th program to win six state titles in GHSA Athletic history. On the season, the Demons scored 716 points, but only allowed 274 points on defense.
Warner Robins senior running back, JaFrederick “Fred-P” Perry, had a spectacular career as a Demon. In 26 games, Perry had 163 total tackles (124 solo), three interceptions, two forced fumbles and two fumble recoveries. Fred “Fred-P” Perry also averaged six tackles per game. On the offensive side, JaFrederick Perry has 118 carries for 1,441 rushing yards and 24 touchdowns. Perry has five 100-plus yards rushing games, this season. Those offers of Power-5 and other FBS schools should begin to come-in for JaFrederick “Fred-P” Perry in the near future.
The Warner Robins Demons had something to prove all season long, and I believe they made their point. The Demons finished their 2021 campaign as the 42nd best high school team in the country. The ranking has been updated via Max Prep Sports.
