A 30-year-old local man was stopped in the wee hours of the morning on Friday, November 26. Sheriff’s Deputy M. Towns was monitoring traffic on South Houston Lake Road near Chilton Place at the time of the incident.

It was at approximately 1:00 a.m. on Friday that Towns reported having “observed the accused’s vehicle, a gray 2017 Dodge Challenger R/T [with Georgia tags], traveling on South Houston Lake Road at what appeared to be a high rate of speed.”

According to the official website of the Governor’s Office of Highway Safety in Georgia, a super-speeder is defined as “speeding at 75-or-more on any two-lane roads…OR … speeding at 85-and-over anywhere in Georgia.”

Upon radar activation, Towns reported that the Dodge Challenger was found to be traveling at 105 miles per hour. The speed limit on that stretch of roadway is 45 miles per hour. Towns indicated that the speed limitations in the area are clearly posted.

The driver of the vehicle was identified as Brandlyn Jebril Smith of Perry. On the official incident report, he is listed as a labor worker at Blue Bird. Not only was Smith charged with speeding, but he was also charged with DUI-Alcohol, open container possession and reckless driving.

No further details were divulged in this case.
