Hornets sting Knights in shootout win 47-35
The Westfield Hornets Football team improved to 7-1 overall after an impressive come from behind win. The Knights of Bethlehem Christian Academy traveled to central Georgia for the heated region contest. This matchup between BCA and The Westfield School turned into a barnburner. Both teams managed to keep the game close after ending the first quarter tied at 14. The Westfield Hornets came together on both sides of the ball and scored quickly before going into halftime, leading by two scores, 28-14.
Penalties were a huge factor in the first half of play. The Westfield School committed nine penalties in the first half, which cost them 90 yards of what could have been an even higher season best in yards for their offense. The Hornets opened the second half very explosive through the air, but were more consistent in their ground game. The Hornets rushed for nearly 300 yards against a very stellar Knights defensive front. The Westfield Hornets would also pass for 174 yards before solidifying their 47-35 win over BCA.
The Westfield Hornets played a complete game and never punted the football. The Hornets’ offense gained 18 first downs, which helped this Westfield team improve to 2-0 in the region. The Westfield Hornets sported a season-high 468 yards of total offense.
Noah Blackmon, Ryan Powers, Hunter Kirkley and Porter Faulk were among the stat patters for the Westfield Hornets. Noah Blackmon finished the game with six receptions for 125 yards receiving. Blackmon also had four carries for 100 yards rushing. Noah Blackmon finished the game with 225 all-purpose yards. Hunter Kirkley was nine of 13 passing for 174 yards, throwing for two touchdowns and one interception. Kirkley also carried the ball nine times for 78 yards. Porter Faulk had 13 carries for 117 yards. Ryan Powers averaged 30 yards per return, as he had 90 yards from three returns.
The Westfield School Hornets will play John Milledge Academy on Friday night in Perry. Kick-off is set for 7:30.
