Eagles down Bears in War-town battle 38-21
The Northside Eagles defeated the Houston County Bears in yet another cross-town region rivalry. The Eagles came into the game with a 6-3 record and The HOCO Bears continue on the quest of their challenging 2021 campaign.
The now 4-6 HOCO has missed their opportunity to get into the GHSA State playoffs, but consistently play hard on every Friday night. Though the Bears are having a tough season, the Eagles did not thread lightly. Northside began the game explosive and never looked back. Northside scored on their opening drives and HOCO began the game with a couple of costly penalties. Going into halftime with the score 17-7, HOCO slowly began to deteriorate into defeat. The energy of the HOCO Bears left the stadium and the momentum shifted toward Northside.
The Eagles controlled the time of possession. Northside maintained possession of the ball for nearly the entire third quarter, but ironically, the Eagles only scored once. To put the nail in the coffin, the twelfth man was the deciding factor in the fourth quarter. The Northside Eagles student section hyped up their football team, and the Eagles went on to score twice in the fourth quarter, to make the score 38-7. With their backups and junior varsity playing for the remainder of the fourth quarter, the Northside Eagles would allow the final two scores of the game.
Both the HOCO Bears and the Northside Eagles will rest this week as both teams have bye weeks. The Eagles will play again on November 13 at home against Lakeside. The Houston County Bears will end their regular season on the road on Friday November 13. The HOCO Bears will travel to Covington, Georgia to play Alcoy. Both kick-offs are at 7:30.
