Imposter steals phones from local Walmart
Perry Police Department is involved in an ongoing investigating regarding a theft at a local Walmart where a man posed as an employee by wearing a staff member’s vest while stealing cell phones.
Perry Police reported that on June 16, around 5:04 in the afternoon, a silver SUV entered the Walmart parking lot and backed into a parking spot near the Garden Center. Two men exited the SUV and entered the general merchandise door. The driver of the vehicle went directly to the rear restroom while the passenger, who wore an employee vest, went to the front restroom.
The man wearing the employee vest then proceeded to enter through the swinging doors in the rear employee back hall area where he walked to the employee lounge. There, he exited the employee lounge before walking to the electronic key box that holds all the store keys. According to what was reported, the imposter looked as though he was trying to use a white card to access the box but was unsuccessful.
The man then walked past the electronics security room, where the store keeps all the high-dollar electronics such as phones, video game consoles and laptops. He proceeded to push on the door and gained access. The still unidentified thief then exited the room with a cardboard box that was closed, and he also had some paperwork in his hand. He left the store just after his accomplice, the driver, did.
It has been determined that a total of 19 cell phones were stolen as a result of what was orchestrated.
Captain Dykes told The Journal that, “The two men are still unidentified, and the police department is still investigating and looking for them both.”
Dykes and PPD are encouraging anyone with additional information on the men or the SUV in which they arrive to please contact law enforcement. Any information that might lead to the arrest of these men should be passed along to PPD Detective Que Gilliam who can be reached at 478-988-2834 or quridsha.gilliam@perry-ga.gov.
