Dispute over vehicle turns into altercation
On Tuesday, April 27, Warner Robins Police Chief John Wagner posted a media release regarding an incident that had occurred earlier that morning. Many residents near the 800 block of McArthur Boulevard in Warner Robins were likely startled awake by several gunshots fired at approximately 7:30 in the morning. According to Assistant Police Chief Chris Rooks, someone from the area had called 911, and the Warner Robins Police Department was dispatched to assess the situation.
Upon the local authority’s arrival, they spoke with victim, Dontae Lawson. The release detailed that Lawson divulged to the officers that he was “threatened with a firearm and a vehicle taken.” After conducting interviews regarding the situation for further investigation, the officers were able to deduce that the altercation was the result of an argument regarding a Mercury Grand Marquis.
“The dispute was over the ownership of the vehicle,” explained Rooks. “The relationship between the victim and the woman involved is that they’re ex-boyfriend and girlfriend. So, their dispute was over which one of them owned the car.”
The woman involved, the suspect, was identified as 43-year-old Cristal Monique Mickens. The release detailed that after the verbal altercation, Mickens had taken a step further to leave the residence and return with her son, 20-year-old Crisjovon Tyrell Mickens, and a hammer. Arriving back to the scene, Cristal proceeded to use the hammer to “bash the windshield” and strike the hood of the vehicle they were in a disagreement about, the Grand Marquis, while demanding possession of the car keys.
Lawson initially refused to relinquish the keys to Mickens since he was the registered owner of the vehicle. In response, Crisjovon brandished a firearm he had possessed and began making threats. Lawson reportedly gave the keys to Cristal, who then drove off with the busted windshield. Crisjovon got back in the vehicle they arrived in and began discharging the firearm.
“No one was injured,” Rooks shared. “The best that we can tell through interviews and other video that was available, he was more than likely shooting up in the air and not directly at anybody,” he further stated.
According to the release, the Grand Marquis was later found several blocks south on Shirley Drive, and the Mickenses were located just a block behind the scene of the incident on the 100 block of Vinson Drive. Both mother and son have been taken in to custody and have been charged with armed robbery, aggravated assault, hijacking a motor vehicle and reckless conduct.
Detective Gary Chambers is currently still investigating the case. The release encourages anyone with further information regarding the incident to contact Chambers at 478-503-5416.
