A beautiful and peaceful Thursday afternoon in Perry turned into a gun related altercation, leaving two young men shot and another in custody with two counts of aggravated assault.

At approximately 1:00 p.m. on April 1, officers with the Perry Police Department responded to an emergency call on the 1200 block of Jackson Lane. Reports indicated that multiple gunshots were fired, resulting in two victims injured. One victim, a 20-year-old from Warner Robins, was reportedly shot three times, one in the abdomen. The other victim, a 23-year-old, also from Warner Robins, was shot once in the leg.

Captain Heath Dykes gave further explanation of the incident. He shared that the two victims were initially in the middle of an altercation. The 20-year-old “kept trying to fight” the 23-year-old, which soon resulted in the older man placing a call to his friend, Tyran D. Lee of Perry, to come and pick him up. When Lee arrived, the 23-year-old attempted to get in the passenger seat, but the 20-year-old repeatedly tried to “snatch him back out of the car to fight him.”

Dykes divulged that during the struggle, Lee pulled out a gun and began shooting at the 20-year-old. In the process, the young man was shot three times and the 23-year-old passenger was accidentally hit in the leg by gunfire.

“And then they fled the scene, and then they came to the police department. That’s how he ended up at the police department,” concluded Dykes.

Both victims were sent to Atrium Health Navicent in Macon for treatment. According to Dykes, the man shot in the leg was treated and released while the condition of the 20-year-old is still unknown. Lee is currently detained at the Houston County Detention Center.

Details on why the altercation began and why Lee chose to discharge the firearm are still under investigation. A press release by the Perry Police Department requests anyone with information about the case to contact Detective Q. Gilliam at 478-988-2834 or Captain Heath Dykes at 478-988-2822.
