Speed plays major role in vehicle accident
At approximately 7:22 p.m. on Friday, March 12, Warner Robins Police Department and first responders were called to a car accident involving two vehicles on Watson Boulevard and 4th Street. The impact left one driver in critical condition.
According to Warner Robins Police Chief John Wagner, a 1996 Jeep Cherokee driven by 30-year-old Joshua Williams of Warner Robins was headed eastbound on Watson Boulevard. Wagner mentioned that Williams was traveling at a high rate of speed with no headlights on. Williams crossed the center turn lane while a U-haul driven by 42-year-old Steven Gaw of Warner Robins had just made a left hand turn off of Fourth Street onto Watson Boulevard, heading westbound.
Wagner stated, “The U-haul tried to avoid the Jeep that was going into its lane and turned and it struck the side of the U-haul, spinning it around to where it was actually facing north on Watson Boulevard.”
Because of the force of the impact, the Jeep was totaled and Williams had to be extricated from the vehicle by the Warner Robins Fire Department. Wagner commented that speed was involved and a major factor of the accident.
Williams was immediately transported to Atrium Health Navicent in Macon and is currently in critical condition due to serious injuries. Gaw fortunately suffered no serious injuries, but is shaken up from the accident. Traffic Sergeant Tim Pippio is heading the investigation of the accident.
