Bear Bryant’s magic bank account
The following information was found in the wallet of former longtime Alabama Coach Bear Bryant, who passed away in 1982.
The Magic Bank Account – Imagine that you have won the following “Prize” in a contest. Each morning, a bank would deposit $86,400 in your private account for you to use. However, the prize has rules, which are: (1) Everything that you did not spend during each day would be taken away from you. (2) You may not simply transfer money into some other account, (3) You may only spend it. (4) Each morning upon awakening, the bank opens your account with another $86,400 for that day. (5) The bank can end the game without warning; at any time, it can say, “Game is over.” It can close the account, and you will not receive a new one.
If this happened, what would you personally do? You would buy anything and everything you wanted, right? Not only for you, but for all the people you love and care for. Even for people that you do not know, because you could not possibly spend it all on yourself, right? You would try to spend every penny and use it all because you knew it would be replenished in the morning, right?
Actually, this game is real. Each of us is already a winner of this “Prize.” We just cannot seem to see that. The prize is “Time.” Each morning, we awaken to receive 86,400 seconds as a gift of life, and when we go to sleep at night, any remaining time is NOT credited to us, because what we have not used up that day is forever lost because yesterday is forever gone.
Each morning, the account is refilled, but the bank can dissolve your account any time without warning, so what will you do with your 86,400 seconds? These seconds are worth so much more than the same amount in dollars. Think about it, and remember to enjoy every second of your time because time races by so much quicker than you think. So take care of yourself, be happy, love deeply and enjoy life!
~A Little Bible Study~
“Left and Right” a little Bible study – Remember what Jesus said, “Goats on the left and sheep on the right” in Matthew 25:33. Jesus also told Peter that if he wanted to catch fish do it from the right side of the boat. They did and filled the boat with fish. John 21:6 says, “Throw your net on the right side of the boat and you will find some.” When they did they were unable to haul the net in because of the large number of fish.
Origin of Left and Right: Many people have often wondered why it is that conservatives are called the “right” and liberals are called the “left.” Ecclesiastes 10:2 says, “The heart of the fool is to the left.” Thus sayeth the Lord. It surely cannot get any simpler than that.
~A Successful Lady~
She was born in Hot Wells, Texas at the end of World War I. She spent her childhood keeping house and caring for her sick father while her mother worked to support the family. Years later, as a single mother, and at a time when very few women worked outside the home, she was determined to pursue her professional goals.
Twenty-five years later, after retiring from a successful career in book sales, she felt like she was ready for a new challenge. As a middle-aged grandmother, she found her “dream company.” Not everyone shared her vision; especially bankers and investors. With assistance from her 20-year-old son and $5,000 of her own life savings, she opened her company in September of 1963. Mary Kay Ash wanted to start a company that would make a difference in women’s lives, and she did. Mary Kay Cosmetics now has branches in several countries with more than 300,000 employees.
