New Chief of Staff elected for Houston Medical Center
The Houston Hospitals Inc. board met Wednesday meeting for their regularly scheduled meeting.
During the meeting, Chairman Fred Graham recognized Dr. Mohammad N. Al-Shroof for his service as the chief of staff for Houston Medical Center for the last eight years. Al-Shroof decided not to run for re-election this year, and instead, to go back to focusing in on his practice.
“We truly appreciate you and your contributions to Houston Healthcare, Dr. Al-Shroof,” Graham said. “You have a good record, always been readily available and again have done an outstanding job. Thank you for all you do.”
In total, Al-Shroof has been in the Houston County community for 21 years, and the last eight, he has served as the chief of staff for Houston Medical Center. Al-Shroof was not at the meeting in-person, but participated by phone.
“Thank you, Chairman; I appreciate your comments,” Al-Shroof said. “I take pride in being the longest serving chief of staff in this county. I may run again, who knows? But I am proud of what I stood for, doing what’s right and fair. I love this community, and I love this country. For someone who came from Jordan with an accent, you all accepted me with open arms and it spoke volumes of how great this country is. Again, thank you.”
Graham then shared that the newly elected chief of staff for Houston Medical Center is Dr. T. Kent McBride.
In other business, Charles Briscoe, president and chief executive officer for Houston Healthcare, gave an update on the organization’s status of COVID-19. Briscoe said currently Houston Medical Center has 38 COVID-19 patients. He then expressed his appreciation to the staff and board for their continued support and hard work.
“It does seem numbers are going up again for us, and we are not sure where it will end on this round,” Briscoe said. “The staff is tired, but they’re hanging in there, and we can’t thank them enough for what they do. We also want to say thank you again to the community as their support hasn’t ever stopped; it continues. So as we have been following guidelines from the CDC, we ask the community to continue to do so as well; wear a mask, wash your hands, social distance and clean surfaces. We are also strongly encouraging everyone to get a flu shot, as it is critically important this year with the pandemic.”
