Westfield’s still winning
Now 4-0, it’s time to wonder what can stop Westfield?
The 41-23 win over Terrell Academy last Friday marked another 500-yard offensive performance led by a dominating rushing game. Three players broke 100 rushing yards against Terrell, and quarterback, Gavin Vining, led the way with 155 yards rushing with two touchdowns. Cameron Kalmback and Noah Blackmon both broke 100 yards with Vining. Blackmon only toted the ball three times and amounted 117 yards and a touchdown.
That success on the ground is primarily the product of a very good offensive line unit. The lineman like senior, Cal Langston, emphasized how they embraced being the roughest and toughest team opponents face, and they’ve been just that. The offensive linemen are also producing defensively, being that they play both sides, and Westfield has only allowed 66 points this year to their 154 points scored.
This week Briarwood Academy (2-3) will take on Westfield at the Hornets’ Nest and try to blemish Westfield’s perfect record.
Westfield isn’t the only undefeated team right now though; region rivals John Milledge Academy is 5-0 and Creekside Christian is 4-0. Though Westfield isn’t worried about too much about what goes on outside of their team, it looks like region play this year could get very interesting.
Westfield’s game against Briarwood Academy is Friday, Oct.23 at Westfield and kicks at 7:30 p.m.
