Cozetta “Cozy” Sherrod Morris

Cozetta “Cozy” Sherrod Morris, age 92, went home to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Friday, April 10, 2020. A Service to Celebrate the Life of Cozetta will be held on Saturday, September 12, 2020, from 12:30 p.m. until 3:00 p.m. in the Museum of Aviation at Robins Air Force Base. As her family, we are grateful for her loving care over the years. She loved us all so well! Cozy was born June 12, 1927, in Alma, Georgia, the daughter of the late Marvin Sherrod and Kate Sherrod. Upon graduation from high school, Cozy trained as a Western Union manager. During WWII, she worked at the Brunswick, GA, Western Union office where, after the war, she met and married the love of her life. For many years she was a homemaker, and later she began a series of careers as her nine children grew up. First, she operated Bonaire Nursery, then she worked as a real estate agent. She also did special events floral design and catering, and she drove a school bus in Houston County for seventeen years, retiring in 1987. Active in her community, she volunteered as a nurses’ aide and answered calls on the crisis line. She served for many years as the President of the Women’s Missionary Union at Bethlehem Baptist Church, and participated in mission trips while at Second Baptist Church.

She was preceded in death by her loving husband, Corral Bell Morris Jr.; her son, John Gideon Morris; her great-granddaughter, Hope Annebelle Peavey; and her brothers, Frank and Bobby Sherrod.

Her memory will be forever treasured by her family, sons, Joseph Morris (Betty) and Jesse Morris; her daughters, Phyllis Peavey (Johnny), Naomi Waterhouse (Geoff), Debby Adkins, Rachel Farr (Arthur), Rebekah Wright, and Elizabeth Rice (Chuck); her brother, Jesse Sherrod (Barbara); her sister, Helen Robinson (J.C.); her sister-in-law, Mary Sherrod of Pennsylvania; her step-mother, Virginia Sherrod; and her step-sisters, Wanda Cox, Wendy Underwood, and Peggy Jackson. She was affectionately called “Grandmother” and “Mammy” by her grandchildren, Renee Hawley, David Branch (Jenny), James Peavey (Sarabeth), Anthony Farr (Trish), Jessica Holland (Judd), Joy Sandmann, Lydia Rice, Vivian Rice, and Caroline Rice; and fourteen great-grandchildren.
