Veterans’ senior wrestling class raises the bar

This past season, Veterans’ wrestling team won region for the fourth year in a row, placed second in team state, third in traditional state, produced a state champion, four state runners-up, and five state placers.

After capping off a successful senior campaign, nine of the 11 seniors in the Veterans wrestling program signed to wrestle at the collegiate level.

Francis Morrissey will continue his education and career at Appalachian State University. The multi time All-American is nationally ranked and leaves Veterans a two-time state champion with over 200 career wins. He plans on pursuing a degree in Exercise Science.

Julian Farber is another multi time All-American and signed to the University of Northern Iowa. Farber is a state champion, two-time state runner up, and recorded over 200 wins over his career. Farber plans on pursuing a degree in Supply Chain Management.

Wylde Wilkerson is a multi-sport varsity athlete and All-American wrestler. Wilkerson chose to continue his education and wrestling career at the United States Military Academy at West Point. Wilkerson racked up over 100 career wins, placed for state, and is a two-time state qualifier. He intends on pursuing a career in the U.S. Army.

Ethan Martin is a state runner up, one-time state placer, and three-time state qualifier with over 150 career wins. Martin signed to Belmont Abbey College to his education and wrestling career and plans to pursue a degree in business management.

Alex Reynolds graduates Veterans with over 150 career wins and an All-American. Reynolds signed to continue his education and wrestling career at Grand View University with plans on pursuing a degree in engineering.

Emilie Rohme is a two-time state placer, All-American, and one of the trailblazers for the Veterans women’s wrestling program. Rohme will continue her education and wrestling career for Grand View University with plans to pursue a degree in sports medicine.

Markayla Stewart is also a trailblazer for the women’s wrestling program at Veterans. The two-time state runner up signed to continue her education and wrestling career at Life University. Stewart intends on pursuing a degree in biology.

Austin Suess signed to Southwest Virginia Community College and plans to study advanced manufacturing. Suess is a one-time state runner up and leaves Veterans with over 100 career wins.

Brayden Fern signed to Southwest Virgina Community College and will join his teammate, Suess. Fern is a one-time state qualifier and also intends to study advanced manufacturing.
