Centerville Mayor Harley and City Council meet briefly
Centerville Mayor John Harley and Council gathered Tuesday evening for a very brief meeting. Only two Council members, Edward Armijo and Micheal Evans, were present, therefore, agenda items were rescheduled for a meeting next month. Those items included an executive session regarding personnel matters and an affidavit and resolution. A discussion regarding the cancellation of the December 4th City Council meeting that was originally set to be read by a member who was not present was discussed by Harley. A total of three members must be present for a meeting and the next one is scheduled for December 18th at 5 p.m.
Harley wished everyone a happy Thanksgiving and discussed the first and only point of new business, information on the Solarize Middle Georgia workshop and information session that would begin after the meeting at 6 p.m. They are “a nonprofit agency that has come down here from the Atlanta area, where they’ve been very successful doing it up there, and they’re trying to see if they can get a number of homes and businesses in this area to participate in the solar projects. And the more they can get, the more they can drop the cost down. There are also funds available from the federal government, which are very helpful. I’m going to have them come and look at my house and see if I can do it. It’ll be a great thing.”
Harley had previously attended a Solarize Middle Georgia event in Macon and said that it can save you roughly a third of your electric bill each month. “We’re making this opportunity available to the middle Georgia region.”
During the public comments portion, Councilman Evans wished everyone a happy Thanksgiving and asked, “Please make sure that you take some time to spend it with those that you love and those that you care about.”
Concluding the meeting, Councilman Armijo said, “Again, I’d also like to extend the same to everyone and their families. If you would, please keep in mind those employees who will still be working during those holidays – law enforcement, fire, and others. They won’t be with their families, but they’ll be here working; so please just keep them in your thoughts and prayers.”
He also talked about safety and reminded everyone to be vigilant, especially during the holidays, encouraging them, “Lock your vehicles, lock your houses, and secure your personal property, because that certainly helps reduce crime. And everyone’s doing a great job.” Harley added a reminder to also “lock your garage” as well and said that it can take no more than 20 – 30 seconds for a robbery to occur.
Armijo also recognized and thanked local residents, Mr. and Mrs. Yesconis, who have been helping greatly in the community; they recently took over the Eagle Springs Neighborhood Watch and “they’ve been doing a great job at keeping their neighbors informed. Any time you have residents like that, who participate and really try to help out, it’s really a great thing.”
