Charles G. Briscoe Houston Healthcare’s new chief operating officer
Born in Decatur to growing up in Tennessee to graduating high school in Macon, and all the while traveling all over the states, Charles G. Briscoe is ready to make middle Georgia his home once again. Houston Healthcare announced Briscoe as the new chief operating officer back in November. He will begin and assume the position officially on Jan. 2, 2017.
“Both of my parents were in the healthcare profession as a nurse and pharmacist,” said Briscoe. “Naturally, hearing all of their conversations at the dinner table, it got me interested in the field.”
Briscoe then went on to the University of Georgia, where he graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in education. After he received his undergraduate degree, he attended Georgia State University for graduate school and received a Master of Business Administration and a Master of Health Administration.
“I actually started work in college as a receiving clerk in the pharmacy,” said Briscoe. “Then, I worked as an admission representative at Dekalb Medical Center before going to graduate school.”
Briscoe then went on to gain more than 20 years of experience in the healthcare profession. He has worked for a national hospital firm in communities located across the southeast, where he held various advancing hospital executive management positions. Briscoe is also board certified in healthcare management and is a Fellow of the American College of Healthcare Executives.
“My previous position was senior vice president of Acute Care Services with Community Health Services of Georgia based in Macon,” said Briscoe. “When I left that position, my wife and I have had opportunities to go elsewhere, but she grew up in Perry and I spent a good time of my teenage years here. So, we decided we were going to commit to the middle Georgia area. I am very grateful to now be a part of the Houston Healthcare team.”
In Briscoe’s new role, he will oversee the daily operations of both Houston Medical Center and the Perry Hospital. He will also serve as a principal assistant to Chief Executive Officer Cary Martin.
“My first goal before I start is to learn the differences because I have come from a proprietary for profit hospital background,” said Briscoe. “Both systems operate the same, it’s just a little difference in how they are managed. But again, my family and I are excited to be a part of this great team and community.”
Briscoe is married to his wife, Elaine, who is a graduate of The Westfield School in Perry. Together they have two sons, Charlie Jr., 10, and David, 7.
