State Rep. Shaw Blackmon (R-Bonaire) announced that the Big Indian Creek Waterway Trail in Houston County will receive $100,000 in grant funding from the Georgia Department of Natural Resources through the Federal Recreational Trails Program.

“We are so grateful to the Georgia Department of Natural Resources for this funding to complete Phase IV of the Big Indian Creek Waterway Trail,” said Rep. Blackmon. “Providing opportunities for our citizens to enjoy wildlife and community is a priority for our delegation. Projects like this serve only to increase civic involvement, and I look forward to seeing the positive impact it will have on Perry and the surrounding area.”

The Federal Recreational Trails Program (RTP) is a competitive grant program which provides funding for trail construction, trail maintenance and trail education. The Georgia RTP, which is funded through the Federal Highway Administration and administered at the state level, provides and maintains recreational trails and trail-related facilities identified in the Statewide Comprehensive Outdoor Recreation Plan (SCORP).
