Now, she’s official.

Melanie Wood may have won the crown of Miss Dogwood on March 12, but it wasn’t until she had her vehicle painted yellow and white with her name, title and symbols of the festival she’s representing that she can let everybody know about Perry’s big event in April.

It wasn’t just for Miss Dogwood, but anyone else who wanted a different kind of window detailing Saturday on Carroll Street. The road between the buildings of First United Methodist Church was blocked off just for painting customers on what turned out to be a beautiful morning to Kick-Off the Perry Dogwood Festival 2016.

This was an important day for Melanie Wood, the junior at Northside High. She is the reigning Miss Northside, and on Saturday she went to Ft. Valley State for this year’s 2016 Georgia Peach Pageant. It wasn’t to compete again, but to hand over the crown she won one year ago, Teen Miss Georgia Peach.

“It’s very exciting,” she said about her latest win as she was handing out Dogwood Festival brochures. “I’m sure (my car) will be the talk of the school.”

Joining her for the Dogwood Festival Kick-Off were two other pageant winners from the weekend before: Tiny Miss Dogwood Cali Grace Williamson and Junior Miss Dogwood Tyler Anne Pope.
