Baking her way up to the Georgia School Nutrition Association State Culinary Competition was Langston Road Elementary cafeteria assistant Jennifer Scott.

Over the past month, Scott has competed in local competitions, recently winning first place at regionals to make her eligible to compete at the state level.

“I first competed in the competition held in Perry with my whole wheat cinnamon rolls,” said Scott. “There, I won first place and moved on to the regional competition in Harris County. At Harris, I again competed with my whole-wheat cinnamon rolls and added my peanut butter brownies. I won first place, and then went to compete at the state competition held at the Le Cordon Bleu College of Culinary Arts in Tucker.”

Scott will find out her placement from the state competition at the annual Georgia School Nutrition Association Conference April 9-11. Scott is also the only competitor from Houston County. She said she was grateful for the opportunity to compete at Le Cordon Bleu College.

“I always saw their commercial on TV and never thought I would get to see it in person,” said Scott. “I thank my mother for teaching me how to cook and my manager for encouraging me to compete.”

Scott’s mother worked in the lunchroom, and so she followed her footsteps. She has been working in the school lunchrooms for 22 years.

“I started out at Kings Chapel Elementary, moved on to Perry Primary, and now I am at Langston Road Elementary,” said Scott. “I love to bake. Seeing the smiles on the kids’ faces and feeding them gives me so much joy.”

Scott is from Henderson and currently resides in Haynesville.
