Perry Church to perform Christmas musical
To bring in the Christmas spirit to the Houston County area this holiday season, the Perry Presbyterian Church will host its third annual Christmas musical in part of an opportunity to bring the local community together.
The event will be held Dec. 6 – 7 at 6:30 at the sanctuary and will last 45 minutes each night.
Gary Johnson, Adult Choir Director for the church, said that the musical will have an array of things to offer the community.
“We are going to have about 14 musicians and 30-35 singers and we are going to present Hope of the Broken World, which is a Christmas musical from Dave Clark and David T. Clydesdale,” Johnson said. “It’s an awesome collection of very spiritual, worshipful and dynamic songs. It really speaks to the whole idea of Christ advent of him coming to be our savior. It also presents the gospel message through music.”
Preparation for the musical started back in mid-August and they have practiced every Sunday evening at the church to gear up for the big event.
According to Johnson, members from the Georgia Big Band will be performing as well as musicians from Mercer University. Several local churches will present during the musical including Houston Lake Presbyterian Church and Grace Chapel of Perry
“(It will be a) great opportunity to reach out the community and spread the gospel,” Johnson said. “We encourage the community to come and participate.”
There will be musicians performing with different instruments including strings, brass, piano, woodwinds as well as a rhythm section.
The youth choir of 10-12 children will be singing a song where they will lead “A strange way around the world,” and they will be also participating with the adult choir.
Admission for the event is free and Johnson encourages people to arrive at the sanctuary around 6-6:15 p.m. He expects around 200-300 people to attend the musical.
“Come listen to us praise god and present the gospel message through music,” Johnson said. “We have a bunch of solos and some spiritual and classical songs; so it’s really got something for everybody.”
