Northside High School Family, Career and Community Leaders of America (FCCLA) students travelled to Nashville in July to attend the National Leadership Conference held at the Opryland Hotel. Northside’s Ashunti Williams and Briana Rumph won a Silver medal for their Chapter Showcase Display. The students were accompanied by Jill Massee and Shonda McFadden, FCCLA Chapter Advisers.

More than 3,600 students competed in STAR (Students Taking Action with Recognition) events. STAR consists of competitive events that build proficiency and achievement in leadership and job-related skills.

This year’s student-originated theme for the annual national meeting was “Discover Your Voice.” Throughout the five-day convention, participants examined and discussed several critical issues, including family, school and community violence prevention, physical as well as financial fitness, future career exploration and countless community service projects.
