Early Tuesday morning, Rebuilding Together celebrated the completion of two houses in the city of Warner Robins.
Barbra Pullin’s husband passed away 13 years ago. Pullin is the owner of a house located at 111 Millwood Dr. Her house was falling apart and a struggle to keep up. It resembled an old barn.
Rebuilding Together and Unity Baptist Church, located in Bonaire, spent about three weekends in a row, members volunteering their time to renovate Pullin’s home. Volunteers painted the whole house, redid the deck, fixed the garbage disposal, and replaced the storm door.
Project manager Tom Hovey stated, “The house was in bad shape. It took a total of 250 man hours.”
Pullin said, “This is a blessing from the Lord. I never dreamed the house would be anything besides red.”
James Chappel is a 51-year-old disabled veteran who lives at 213 Orchard Way. His house contained lead based paint and asbestos.
Jerome Stephens, president of Rebuilding Together and project manager for this house, led volunteers in a longer than expected project due to the rain. Volunteers and professional contractors replaced insulation, central heating and air, and added a new electrical system. The team also restored the tin roof.
Tamara King, fiancé of Chappel, stated, “The house looks homey again. This is a real good organization.”
Stephens said, “Our mission is to keep a safe and healthy home for every person.”
Rebuilding Together received a $10,000 grant for both house renovations. Sears funded work and materials.
Rebuilding Together is a national nonprofit organization that restores communities by making home and yard repairs for the elderly, disabled and veterans.
Applications for the 2013-2014 year started Aug. 1. If you would like more information, email Stephens at jeromestephens@bellsouth.net.
