Purvis Named Pitcher of the Year, Thomas All Southern Conference

Sarah Purvis was voted Southern Conference Pitcher of the Year after a vote of the league’s head coaches Monday. The junior hurler was joined on the All-SoCon First Team by junior shortstop Kourtny Thomas. Purvis is a graduate of Northside High and Thomas graduated from Houston County High.
 
Purvis earns Pitcher of the Year for the second-straight year and earns Georgia Southern’s fourth award in the last five seasons. Purvis went 8-2 in league play while posting a 1.30 earned run average. The junior twirler struck out 71 batters and held opposing batters to a .144 average. Overall, Purvis has won 14 games with 180 total strikeouts in 168.0 innings. She tossed a perfect game earlier this season against Southern Illinois and closed the regular season with a one-hit shutout win over Appalachian State, her third one-hitter in league play.
 

Thomas earned her first collegiate postseason honor when she was named to the first team All-SoCon at shortstop. She led the Eagles with 11 home runs and was one of the league’s most feared hitters, earning 31 total walks. Thomas slugged .503 on the season and reached base at a .383 clip.
