School Nutrition Association holds system contests

The Houston County School Nutrition Association announces the winners of system contests. Two students won an art contest and two employees won the district culinary completion.

The winners of the district Nutrition Advisory Council art contest were: first place – K-5, Darius Kentrell Dickey; first place – 9-12, David Nicholas Moulder.

Darius’ and David’s art pieces advanced to the state competition.

The district association culinary winners were: Meatless/Vegetarian Entrée: first place – Susan Artz, Houston County High, Mexican Lasagna; Red/Orange Vegetable Side Dish: first place – Jacqueline Benn, David Perdue Elementary, Vegetable Island Rice; and Legume Side Dish: first place – Susan Artz, Houston County High, Frijoles Charroas Beans.

Both Artz and Benn qualified to next compete in the state competition at the renowned Le Cordon Bleu Culinary Institute.

They also attended the Georgia School Nutrition Association Conference in April in Savannah where they received certificates for their local and district wins.

Meredith Potter serves as director of school nutrition.
