As he walked into the senior cafeteria at Houston County

High School, he was greeted with a welcome surprise.

The surprise was in the form of the Presidential Scholarship

from Erskine College in the town of Due West, S.C.

“I’m very excited,” said Braden Anderson. “All the stress is

gone.”

The Presidential Scholarship, which is valued at $165,00

over four years, is the most prestigious undergraduate scholarship offered at

the college. It covers tuition, room, board and fees.

“This is such an answered prayer for us,” said Gregg

Anderson, Braden’s father, who said his son would be majoring in biology and

playing soccer for the school.

Kem Anderson, Braden’s mother, said she was “very shocked”

when she found out about the scholarship. She described the school’s atmosphere

as being “friendly, warm and welcoming.”

Braden, along with his

mother and father, expressed how thankful they are for the scholarship during

the surprise event held at Houston County High School Monday.

According to a release, the Erskine’s Presidential Scholarship Selection

Committee chose Braden because he is a “highly motivated and creative

individual whose activities reflect qualities of leadership and service in

their respective schools, churches, and communities.”
