Water, water everywhere, soaks Houston County

Soaking

rains have fallen in Middle Georgia over the past two weeks and forecasters say

there’s a risk of flooding from the downpours.

The

National Weather Service has issued numerous flood watches and warnings over

the past week as a result of the rain.

Here in Houston County the rain has slowed down some

activities.

Like on Friday, Perry High School’s baseball team was

supposed to play at Houston County High. Panther coach Shawn Masters, looking

over a soaked Panther Pit Monday, said he got a call from his Houston

counterpart, Jason Brett, about maybe instead having kayak races in the

infield.

Masters said the rain for the whole month of February has

taken away a week’s worth of practice time on the field and more postponed

games than games played.

Veterans High was supposed to play Warner Robins at home

Friday as well. David Coffey, the Warhawks coach, said that game will be played

at 5 p.m. Friday. But Tuesday’s game, against Houston County, was called off

due to the additional Monday evening downpours.
