Key Matchups

8/6 – Warner Robins vs. Northside, 6 p.m.

This is not just another iteration of the Crosstown Showdown, but also the Demonettes’ first home opener in their new softball complex.

Warner Robins has not won against Northside since 2017, and are 4-28 in the all-time series against the Lady Eagles.

Warner Robins won double digit games for just the third time in the last decade last season, and starting off the home schedule with a big rivalry win could give them some early-season momentum.

8/13 – Perry vs. West Laurens, 6 p.m.

Perry took a bit of a step back last year after a solid first season under Ally Clegg, who was replaced by Raegan Stella after the former’s departure over the summer.

The Lady Panthers still finished second in the region and return five All-Region players, but now a new region with more quality opponents will present a tougher challenge.

West Laurens has been a softball powerhouse in recent years, giving Perry the perfect challenge five games into the season. Win or lose, this matchup should teach the Lady Panthers a lot about themselves.

8/21 – Westfield @ Long County, 7 p.m. – Watermelon Invitational

Westfield has been on top of the GIAA 3A classification for nearly a decade now, and one of the ways they do that is by testing themselves against quality opponents.

That includes GIAA opponents, but also those outside the organization. This season that includes Camden County, who they played last year, as well as Long County.

Long County exploded on the scene last year as an extremely young team with only one senior. They were 27-6 and 14-1 in Region 3-3A. As far as a challenge for a championship program goes, it doesn’t get much better than this.

8/25 & 8/27 – Northside vs. Thomas County Central

Northside won 13 games in 2025, their highest total since 2020, and more than the last three seasons combined.

However, they have still yet to win a region game since 2021, so their late August series against Thomas County Central could be the series to watch for that streak to be broken.

The two clubs shared the bottom of the Region 2-5A standings last year.

9/11 – HoCo @ Buford – South Commons

The Lady Bears overcame last year’s rocky start to make their second consecutive trip to Columbus, and they only graduated one player from that squad.

Rising sophomores Piper Lambert, Allie Hutto and Brianna Walker join a big group of upperclassmen in what could be a breakthrough season for HoCo.

The Lady Wolves were 36-0 state champions last year, and they only graduated four seniors in 2026. With four games before the 8 p.m. Friday night first pitch, including a region doubleheader on Thursday, it will certainly test the Lady Bears’ mettle.

9/29 – *Veterans vs. Houston County, 5 p.m.

Although it’s “just” a region series, Veterans vs. Houston County has been must-see softball the last several years.

Last year’s Lady Warhawks squad was arguably the best in school history, but the Lady Bears took them the distance and ended up as region champions. In 2024 Veterans lost Game 1 by eight runs, but turned around and swept a thrilling doubleheader to come out with the series win.

If you only see one series this season, it should be this one.
