A 9-year-old girl was taken to the

Medical Center of Macon for serious injuries resulting from a one-vehicle

accident Saturday in Perry that happened on Courtney Hodges Boulevard.

The girl was ejected from a vehicle

that crashed into a telephone pole. She and the vehicle were then airborne, and

both her and the car hit a building.

According to the reports from the

Perry Police and Georgia State Patrol, the crash was the result of driver

Afdosta Lamart Brown losing control of a Chevrolet Tahoe. The vehicle left the

roadway, sheared off a power pole, went up an embankment and sent the vehicle

airborne causing it to flip multiple times and hit the building of what was

formerly known as Red’s Chicken Restaurant, according to police.

Brown was charged with driving while

under the influence of alcohol, two counts of serious injury by motor vehicle,

open container, endangering a child by DUI, failure to maintain lane, damage of

public property, reckless driving and driving on a suspended license.

The girl’s mother, Shuwanda Watkins,

was also in the vehicle. The police report states that officers smelled the

odor of alcohol coming from her as well.

Antonio Sutton was a passenger in

the vehicle as well and sustained injuries.

The police report states that Brown

tried to tell police that Watkins was driving the vehicle, but witnesses

identified Brown as the driver.

The Georgia State Patrol is now

investigating the crash.
