3 arrests made in north WR shootout
WARNER ROBINS, Ga. — Michael Cooper, 41, was shot and killed on Jan. 18, despite first responders’ attempts to prevent him from succumbing to his injuries.
On Tuesday, the Warner Robins Police Department reported three arrests tied to Cooper’s murder. The Journal spoke with Lt. Eric Gossman for more details.
It was initially reported that Cooper and another individual were in some form of dispute, and after meeting at the intersection of Ignico and North Davis drives, started a shootout. Cooper was injured during the shooting and crashed his vehicle into a pole. A passerby found Cooper and, discovering his injuries, transported him to Houston Healthcare – Warner Robins in their private vehicle.
First responders arrived at the scene, found Cooper’s crashed vehicle in flames with three bullet holes along its exterior.
It’s now being reported that there were multiple people involved in Cooper’s shooting and subsequent death.
Shadarrius D. Hogan, 21, of Macon, was arrested Jan. 18, and is charged with murder and aggravated assault. His arrest was followed by two others, Tionne L. Beasley, 22, of Macon, and Vincent M. Winston, 19, of Perry. Beasley is charged with murder and hindering apprehension. Winston is charged with murder and aggravated assault.
Gossman confirmed that Hogan was the individual in a dispute with Cooper. Beasley is charged with hindering apprehension for withholding information. Winston and Hogan are both charged with aggravated assault for their active participation in the shootout.
All three of those arrested are charged with murder due to their involvement in Cooper’s death, rather than a party to a crime charge. According to Gossman, more arrests are to come.
