Maj. Gen. (ret.) Bob McMahon, the president and chief executive officer of the 21st Century Partnership, has released the following statement in response to Senator Saxby Chambliss’s announcement that he will not seek re-election to the U.S. Senate in 2014:
“It is a sad day for Georgia — especially Middle Georgia. Senator Chambliss is a stanch supporter of this region and especially Robins Air Force Base. As a former commander of the Base, I have first-hand knowledge of the tremendous support we received from Senator Chambliss.
For more than 19 years, he has represented us with sound reason and a steady hand of leadership. His innate understanding of national security and defense issues, have been critical to the success of this region and our national defense. We will greatly miss him and wish him nothing but the best as he continues to serve the great people of this state and nation.”
